Places to visit in Jorhat

Jorhat is the second largest city after Guwahati in Assam. Jorhat, the last Capital of the Ahom Kingdom, has archaeological values associated to Rajamaidan – the burial mounds of Ahom kings. Nestled in the tea gardens, Jorhat today is a well developed city in Upper Assam. The annual tea festival is a major attraction in Jorhat. The Majuli Island in the Brahmaputra River is the world’s largest river island. There are around 665 Satras (A monastery of neo-Vaishnavism), in Assam, out of which 65 are in Majuli. The important Satras in this island are the Auniti Satra, Uttar Kamalabari Satra, and Dakhinpat Satra, which have easy access. The handloom and pottery work of Majuli tribes is famous across the globe.
