Built in the Chalukya architectural style, the Bhavani Shankara temple of Hubli is a fine representation of the sculptural prowess prevalent during those times.
The inner sanctum contains an image of Narayana. It is surrounded by carvings representing the Dashavathara or the Ten Incarnations of God. Ancient literature also refers to an image of God Surya which is supposed to be located in the Bhavani Shankara temple. It is now missing and its whereabouts are not known.
There is also a reference in literature to the existence of an inscription in the temple, belonging to the time of Chalukyan king, Someshwara 11
