Modhera: Modhera is famous for its Sun Temple, built by King Bhimdev I in 1026 and 1027 AD, which appears to be the replica of the Konark temple in Orissa. As at Somnath, this temple despite ruined by Mahmud of Ghazni, retains its charm. The temple architecture was designed in such a way that the dawn sun shone on the image of Surya, the sun god, during equinoxes.
Patan: About 130 km northwest of Ahmedabad, Patan once served as an ancient Hindu capital. This dusty and little visited city is well connected with the country by road, rail and air. The city is known for its majestic buildings and structures, faded wooden houses and serene environment. Patan is also famous for its exquisite Patola silk saris.
