Tirubhuvanam: 8 kms. This place is famous for its temple of Shiva dedicated to Kamahareshwara, said to have been built by Kulottunga Chola. Modelled after the Chola shrines at Thanjavur, it is believed to have been constructed to commemorate a victory in war. The Shiva Linga in the sanctum is carved out of a big rock. The goddess is known as Dharmasamvardhini. The tower ov.er the main entrance is a massive structure noted for its wealth of sculptures depicting episodes from the epics. The temple walls are ornamented with numerous sculptures portraying dance poses delicately carved in Pallava style.
