BR Hills is a group of stand alone hills located near Mysore. They are a vital link that help form a contiguous stretch of forests between the western gfiat region of Wayanad and the Banneraghatta National Park, aiding in movement of wildlife. The hills collectively form part of Biligiri Rangaswamy Wildlife Sanctuary, named after the Rangaswamy Temple in the area.
The sanctuary is spread over an area of 540 sq km covered with diverse vegetation varying from shrub forest at lower regions to deciduous, evergreen and shola forests in the higher reaches. The flagship species of the region is the Gaur, which is seen in plenty. Other animal life includes leopards, wild dogs and even the mighty tigers.
